Chores weekend

I've been so busy lately that I've been putting off a lot of things that need to be done. Add to that, the next two weekends are fully booked, and I decided I'd better use this weekend to play catch up on all my past due chores and also get in some serious housecleaning.

So why am I blogging?  Well, I'm doing better on my list than I expected.  I've already fixed the toilet in the master bathroom, repaired the latch on the door into the garage and repaired the star globe that got broken when my grandnieces were here.   I'm in the process of getting my anime calendars hung and housecleaning, so I decided I could take a break and post a blog.

Actually I fixed the toilet twice. It needed fixing because when it was flushed it was running for about 10 minutes.  I tried just fixing it (oh, three times then), but couldn't, so I decided to replace the innards.  I disconnected the water (yes, turned it off and emptied the tank first), took the innards apart and out, and then decided the parts I was going to use to replace them wouldn't fit.  (only minor cussing, at this point)  So I put the old parts back in, reconnected everything and turned the water back on.  When I was putting the new parts back in the box they came in, I looked closely and realized they are adjustable!  Yup. Realized it after I had put the toilet back together. (Somewhat more cussing)   I rolled up my sleeves and dived back in, and actually replaced the parts and fixed the toilet.

Luckily that double effort wasn't a omen for my day since it was my first task.  Everything else has gone smoothly so far.

The pictures in this post are of two small pine trees that  I'm raising from seeds.  Yes, I'm trying to grow things again.  They came in a bonsai tree gift a year ago, but I decided not to plant them until after I moved.  The kit came with 9 pine tree seeds, two of which managed to come up.  After they were 3 inches high I planted them in the box that came with them and sprinkled moss seed on the soil as directed.  The first picture shows them from above, and you can see that they are somewhat entwined (probably should have planted them farther apart).  The next picture was taken soon after they were planted.  If you squint you can see tiny green shadow that is the moss coming up.  The next picture is a month or so ago and the final picture shows you that the moss is nearly taking over the trees.  They're all growing very well, but the moss is a little enthusiastic.

The year is already moving by too fast, but that's to be expected I suppose when I take on so much at work.  Next week I have an out of town trip and I have 7 presentation powerpoints due by February 1st.  See what I mean about taking on too much.   I'll get it all done.  Probably.

It's raining today.  Although I love sun, I'm so delighted to see the rain.  It's been a horribly dry year since last summer, so I've been hoping for lots of rain early on this year.  My grass is dormant, which I know longer pay such close attention to since I don't mow it.  My lawn service, does leaves and general cleanup this time of year.  Lots of rain now should mean that the grass will come back in good shape when it comes back though.

Anyway, that's about all today.  Just wanted to get a post in since I'm booked the next two weekends.  Later.
